Increased gamma waves are observed in high levels of cognitive functioning particularly in successful professional athletes, entertainers and high performing professional musicians when they are in the zone.  Psychological functioning assessments using the Brunel Mood Scale (BRUMS) and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), as well as questionnaires using the coping self- effacing scale and the Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire (FFMQ), also suggested that practice of Meditation on Twin Hearts effectively reduces anxiety and improves cognitive function and happiness even if one practices for the first time.

In each session, participants learned about the study and Meditation on twin hearts; they completed a self-assessment questionnaire to score their current levels of happiness and attention; then everyone practiced the guided meditation together. Afterward, participants reviewed and discussed any changes to their self-assessment scores in small groups. Participants were encouraged to write down specific actions they would take in response to the training.

The Meditation on Twin Hearts practice can be integrated into corporate wellness programs to decrease stress and absenteeism and increase productivity, awareness, empathy, team building, and community collaboration. In a study of neurohormones and neurotransmitters following Meditation on Twin Hearts, Glenn J. Mendoza, M.D., and Supriya Ghorpadkar noted up to 300% increase in serum melatonin levels in subjects following the meditation. Melatonin is the principal hormone produced by the pineal gland. Serotonin, a neurotransmitter precursor was also noted to increase following Meditation on Twin Hearts. In the study beta-endorphins, neuropeptides synthesized in the pituitary gland in response to physiologic stressors such as pain had no effect post Meditation on Twin Hearts.

Many of us overlook the humble bath salt as something that Granny used to use, or something that you put on the shelf (you know those colorful jars of salt we all used to make way back when). We believe bath salts are one of the most natural, soothing, and inexpensive ways to pamper and heal the human body and we just love them.

For over 2000 years people have been saying that certain salts, when used as a soak or treatment, deliver health benefits. These range from the slightly crazy claims (they help your libido) to scientific studies that show certain bath salts can be used to alleviate symptoms of inflamed skin, eczema, psoriasis and arthritis. There is even evidence out there to say that bath salts can assist with autism.

This is not to say that jumping in any old salty bath is going to cure all your ailments and create a new you (sorry). Benefits of Dead Sea Salts

Unsurprisingly, given the number of people who have sung the benefits of the Israeli beach vacation cure, the benefits of Dead Sea salt have been the most scientifically researched and tested of all the bath salts. And, the results have meant that the cynics have had to cast their cynicism to one side as studies from across the globe have demonstrated the positive effect that Dead Sea salts can have on inflammatory diseases, including eczema, psoriasis and arthritis. Indeed, many hospitals, health bodies and dermatologists are advocates for Dead Sea salts as a natural remedy for these conditions.

Inflammatory diseases (eczema, psoriasis, allergic reactions, rashes, dry and aging skin)
Dead Sea salts have been linked to successfully reducing the effects of inflammatory diseases such as eczema, dry skin, roughness and skin redness. This is thought to be linked to the high magnesium content in Dead Sea salts which binds water, influences epidermal proliferation and differentiation and enhances permeability barrier repair. The high bromide and magnesium in Dead Sea salt can relieve allergic reactions by cleansing.

Other parameters, such as the spread redness and infiltration decreased more slowly, but after four weeks the majority of the patients were essentially free from complaints. Pretty remarkable we think.

Interestingly, one study into Dead Sea salt benefits has shown a 40% reduction in the depth of wrinkling. However, this is one you will have to prove yourself as it isnt backed by enough independent scientific studies We know bath salts are good, but even we cant claim that they can turn back the clock.

Rheumatic arthritis
Dead Sea Salts are known to assist with rheumatic arthritis. Studies in Germany and Israel have proven that bathing in a 2% bath solution at home can deliver significant benefits to sufferers of arthritis. These include a reduction in morning stiffness, improvement in walk time, hand-grip strength, activities of daily living, the circumference of proximal interphalangeal joints, number of active joints, and serum levels of amyloid A, rheumatoid factor, sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium.

Stress and insomnia

We humans love to celebrate, but all to often those celebrations can come with a steep environmental cost.  Celebrations and parties of all kinds too often come along with unnecessary waste as it can be perceived that it is cheaper and easier to use disposable everything, however with a little pre-planning this does not have to be the case. When you stop to consider the long term impact of the created waste you quickly realize it does not outweigh the time, effort, and cost of going as zero or low waste as you can at your next get together.

So where do you start when planning your next party?  To save you some time, we have put together 33 easy and affordable zero waste party tips and asked a few of our favourite zero waste heroes for their tips to include for inspiration on making easy changes that can be incorporated into any party theme.

Invitations

Setting the tone starts with your invitation. Use this as an opportunity to get your guests on board with your zero waste thinking.

1. Send or text invites digitally instead of printing them on paper. You can even include a little mention of why you chose to send the invites this way.

Party Preparations

Taking a bit of time to consider all aspects of your party and how you can reduce waste will help you see areas you can keep waste to a minimum.

Food and Drink

There are many ways to reduce waste when it comes to food and drink. Its not just what you use to serve your guest but the potential for food waste is a factor as well.

17. You can eliminate the need for plates and cutlery altogether by offering finger food. Options like shrimp, stuffed mushrooms, and potato wedges are easy to manage.

18. To reduce cost and waste, follow caterer industry standards and make about two servings of each variety of finger food for every guest.

19. Have pitchers or a punch bowl of ice water with reusable cups and glasses available.

28. Needless to say, skip the plastic straw. If you want to provide straws opt for ones made from recycled or sustainable materials (and are themselves compostable or biodegradable) or consider reusables that people can take home with them.

Zero Waste should not be just the concern of the host. As a guest of any party you can reduce your impact in several ways:

30. No need for single-use wrapping paper that is literally ripped up and then discarded after one use. Try these wrapping ideas instead:

Wrap presents using a scarf, handkerchief or cloth napkin. Not only does it look chic, it works as an added gift too.

Wrap presents using newspaper. Make it look luxe by adding ribbon or twine.

Add vintage brooches to decorate, they make any present shine. They are often less than $2 a piece and make a present even more special.

An added tip is adding natural elements to your wrapping such as eucalyptus leaves, evergreen ferns or flowers. They look stunning and are totally compostable too.

31. Thrift stores are full of treasures. Depending on the recipient and occasion you may just find the perfect gift and give it a new life.

Encourage Zero Waste

33. Your host may not be considering the waste involved or seeing all the ways to reduce waste. When responding to the invite, offer to bring over decorations and supplies beforehand to encourage them to think differently.

Going without meat or dairy may seem to be a daunting prospect for many of us, but what are some of the benefits of a vegetarian diet?

Its one of those things which either inspire a sense of awe or a sense of confusion. For a number of us, the idea of giving up all meat and animal products is hard to comprehend. Certainly here in Australia, throwing a steak or two on the barbie feels like as much of a national institution if anything.

According to a Roy Morgan survey, some 10 percent of the country is thought to eat food that is all, or almost all, vegetarian, amounting to some 1.9 million people.

Why do people choose to become vegetarian?

Its important to note that there is not just one type of vegetarian diet, with some vegetarians eating fish or dairy products, while others exclude all animal products, such as vegans.

The reasons for becoming a vegetarian are many and varied, says Nutrition Australia. Many vegetarians believe that, in addition to health benefits and moral considerations, there is also reduced environmental degradation (i.e. increased sustainability) associated with vegetarianism.

The environment argument certainly seems to have merit, with a vegan diet estimated to be the most climate-friendly, according to Chalmers University in Sweden.

Here, were all about taking steps to be more sustainable with our range of reusable shopping bags as well as our stainless steel drink bottles. So far, a vegetarian or vegan diet scores some big points with its eco-friendly approach. But what about the nutrition factor?

Staying balanced with a meat-free diet

One of the main concerns people may have about ditching meat and dairy is the prospect of not getting enough protein. However, youll be glad to hear that just because you go vegetarian, doesnt mean that youll lose out on vital nutrients.

The US National Library of Medicine asserts that you do not need to eat animal products to get all the protein you need in your diet, whilst also noting that vegetarians can get sufficient amounts of the essential amino acid from plant-based foods.

Launched back in 2009 by Paul and Stella McCartney, the movement has earned itself fans worldwide, including chef and healthy eating advocate Jamie Oliver.

Many of the worlds leading health organizations now encourage a reduction in the number of meat people to consume, says the Meat Free Monday Foundation.

Camila P. R. A. T. Valim, Lucas M. Marques and Paulo S. Boggio on their latest article A Positive Emotional-Based Meditation but Not Mindfulness-Based Meditation Improves Emotion Regulation published in Frontiers in Psychology, the worlds most-cited multidisciplinary psychology journal.

The authors investigated the effect of meditation on the cognitive ability of emotion regulation comparing Meditation on Twin Hearts and mindfulness meditation. The participants who practiced a single Meditation on Twin Hearts were more effective in suppressing negative emotion and amplifying positive emotion than those who practiced mindfulness meditation and the control group.

One of the fundamental tenets of science is that when youre performing an experiment, you should be able to observe it and replicate the results by following the same steps every time.

Master Choa Kok Sui, in his development of Pranic Healing, observed the existence of vital energy. He noted that it constantly affects peoples health and well-being, whether or not they are aware of it. Through systematic research and a team of clairvoyant observations, he deduced that people with lower amounts of vital energy tend to be weak and sickly, with a weaker aura, while those with greater amounts of energy tended to be healthier, along with a brighter aura.

His case studies showed that people with similar ailments tended to have certain energetic patterns. For example, patients with hypertension were observed to have an over-active Meng Mein Chakra coupled with a congested, over-active Solar Plexus Chakra.

Master Choa had an encyclopedic knowledge of various healing modalities and spiritual technologies along with a formal education in Chemical Engineering. He used this along with his knowledge of Yoga, Chi Kung, Theosophy and Psychic Phenomenon to help him understand the matter deeply and design further experiments to furnish data and validate his findings.

 

Research Methodology

The research methodology was conducted on genuine patients with health issues and ailments. The experimental healing techniques were investigated through observations, interviews and follow-ups. More than 20 years of research and refinement was spent in creating and codifying the science behind Pranic Healing. It included the principles, techniques and procedures with the express scientific aim that anybody following the protocol will be able to replicate the healing results.

In 1987, Pranic Healing was formally introduced to the general public through the publication of a book called The Ancient Science and Art of Pranic Healing. It became popular in numerous countries as more and more people started applying it on their family members, loved ones and friends. Master Choa Kok Sui encouraged experiments and observations to validate the effectiveness of his system. People testified to its miraculous results and those testimonies were included in the last chapter of the book for the public read and validate. The name of the book was subsequently changed to Miracles through Pranic Healing.

 

In Hospitals and in Research

With the spread of Pranic Healing globally, workshops were conducted in universities, hospitals, corporations and churches. The simplicity, sophistication and non-sectarian approach in the description of problems and providing solutions for them made Pranic Healing a popular method even amongst medical doctors. California Neurosurgery hospital was among the first medical institutions where Pranic Healing was used to complement medical treatments. Departments of Pranic Healing were later put up in a number of hospitals including Apollo Specialty Hospitals in Chennai, Bangalore and Delhi, Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in Nedlands, Western Australia, and Cancer Center of Ventura County in Oxnard, California.

Presently, academic research is being conducted across the world in Pranic Healing modalities. A number of papers have been published in scientific and scholarly journals and publications. Some of the data will be cited at the end of this article.

Are Our Kids Spending Too Much Time Indoors?

Do you remember the days when you were indoors at school, and the sound of the bell at the end of class would send you sprinting outside to run around in the sun? You would get home and your parents would have to yell across the garden to get you inside for dinner, and youd spend the glorious summers breathing the fresh air.

Fast forward a few decades, and it feels like its rare to come across an Aussie kid who isnt practiced with a smartphone or a tablet. Portable mobile devices have become digital pacifiers for bored kids who used to be sent to play outside to keep themselves occupied.

From video games to streaming videos over Wi-Fi and 3G, navigating through apps with a well-practiced hand, the digital native generation dont bat an eyelid at passing hours upon end sucked into a screen.

But should we be concerned?

Theyre probably twice as quick with technology as you are.

Technology = indoors 

Without looking into the argument over the effects of excessive technology use in children, perhaps the most pressing concern is that if a child is busy playing on a screen, they are likely to be staying indoors.

As brilliant as mobile technology is, most devices are not well suited to rain or even use in the direct sun, where the glare makes the screen hard to make out.
